Will O'Donoghue savours Limerick’s hurling resurgence
Will O'Donoghue reflects on Limerick’s triumphant return to hurling’s pinnacle after years of dedication and expert management. The Na Piarsaigh star emphasises the importance of player wellbeing and strategic planning in sustaining championship success.
Expert care and longevity
Will O'Donoghue, a key figure from the 2018 triumph and a proud Na Piarsaigh clubman, credits the team's success to the meticulous care provided by manager John Kiely and his backroom staff. "The backroom team ensures we remain fresh and feel valued within the schedule they design," O'Donoghue explains.
His commitment was recently recognised when he was named the 2026 GWA Hurling Personality of the Year, an accolade proudly supported by Clayton Hotels. O'Donoghue emphasises the balance between intensity and player welfare: "There’s never a sense of being overworked. Our longevity and wellbeing are prioritised, not just short-term gains. That approach makes the journey enjoyable and helps us stay injury-free."
The quest for championship glory
Limerick faced a challenging couple of seasons in 2024 and 2025 without securing the All-Ireland title. Their return to claim the Liam MacCarthy Cup this year has brought immense satisfaction. "It’s a huge relief and joy because, deep down, you can't help but wonder if you’ll ever get there again," O'Donoghue admits.
Their story is one of perseverance, expert management, and a shared vision that keeps the team not only at the top but thriving sustainably in the fiercely competitive world of hurling.
