Galway Go Games U9 blitzes inspire young players
More than 1,500 under-9 players from across Galway took part in two vibrant Go Games blitzes recently, hosted at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan. These events focused on enjoyment and teamwork, offering emerging footballers and hurlers plenty of game time across multiple pitches.

Galway GAA’s Games Promotion Officers, Aidan Claffey and Cian Ryan, played key roles in organising the blitzes, managing the complex logistics of running simultaneous matches. Claffey explained that seven pitches were in use, including the Dome, with up to eight teams playing on each pitch in rotation to keep the action continuous and engaging.

Ryan highlighted the enthusiasm of players and coaches alike, noting the novelty of facing new opponents and experiencing the Centre’s facilities. The success depended heavily on the combined efforts of clubs, referees, coaching staff, and Connacht GAA, all contributing to a seamless experience. Both officials emphasised the importance of the Go Games format in promoting participation and nurturing the next generation of GAA members, whether as players or future club contributors.
