Teagasc has unveiled its second Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) strategy, titled ‘Advancing Diversity Equity and Inclusion: Building an Inclusive and Accessible Organisation.’ The launch occurred at the Growing Voices; Women in Farming event, where Chairperson Liam Herlihy formally introduced the initiative.
Chief Operations Officer Designate, Valerie Farrell, reflected on Teagasc’s progress over the past eight years, highlighting key projects supporting Gender Equality, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and its international staff community. She emphasised the strategy’s four pillars, which establish a refreshed vision and actionable commitments to embed DE&I throughout Teagasc’s practices, ensuring it is an employer and service provider that values diversity and fosters a thriving culture.
Teagasc is also among eight organisations participating in the WIDE Leaders Programme, supported by AHEAD and Employers for Change, to advance disability-inclusive employment. Over the coming year, Teagasc will review its culture and practices against a rigorous framework designed collaboratively by disabled people, employers, and disability organisations. Áine Coady, Teagasc DE&I Specialist, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration, noting that enhancing inclusion benefits all within the organisation. The full DE&I strategy is accessible via the official Teagasc website.
