Teagasc and Irish Heart Foundation offer vital health checks
A vital collaboration between Teagasc and the Irish Heart Foundation has launched, offering free, accessible health screenings to farmers and their families across the country. Supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, this project ensures that essential health monitoring is integrated into existing agricultural events, making it easier for busy rural workers to prioritise their physical condition.

The inaugural session successfully took place today at the Teagasc Portlaoise Advisory Office, where all available appointment slots were quickly filled by local participants. Attendees received comprehensive assessments, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose monitoring, alongside personalised health guidance provided by the Irish Heart Foundation’s expert team.

Further opportunities to participate will be available at upcoming clinics, including the Transferring the Family Farm event in Carlow on 7 October, the Kiltimagh session in Mayo on 15 October, and the Rooted in Health Tillage event in Oak Park on 30 October. Those wishing to secure a slot in Carlow are encouraged to contact Sinéad Barrow at the Oak Park Advisory Office, while general enquiries regarding the programme can be directed to Diana van Doorn via email.
