New health manual launched to boost wellbeing in Wexford
The ‘Healthy Living for Everyday Life’ project has reached a significant milestone with the release of a detailed manual and an accompanying online resource. Developed by the HSE’s Health Promotion and Improvement team, this initiative was supported by local partners such as the Wexford Library Service, Sports Active Wexford, the Irish Heart Foundation, and Mental Health Ireland. Originally launched as a series of talks from September to December last year, the project sought to enhance health literacy across Co. Wexford.

Funded through the Adult Literacy for Life Collaboration and Innovation Fund, the talks were held in libraries across Bunclody, Enniscorthy, Gorey, New Ross, and Wexford Town to empower individuals to better manage their health and wellbeing. A key aspect of the project was training facilitators in adult literacy awareness and literacy-sensitive health promotion to ensure that information was communicated clearly and inclusively.

The manual covers a wide range of health topics including everyday exercise, alcohol awareness, smoking cessation, healthy eating, cancer risk reduction, and mental health support. Led by HSE Health Promotion and Improvement Officer Elaine Banville, with contributions from a steering group including Wexford Library, WWETB, and Adult Literacy for Life, the project exemplifies collaborative efforts to make health information more accessible. The resources are available online for wider use and adaptation by other organisations and communities, reinforcing the importance of clear and accessible health communication.
