Garda remove 24 convicted offenders under EU orders
On Sunday 18th October 2026, the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) executed a significant removal operation targeting individuals subject to EU Removal Orders accompanied by Exclusion Orders, barring their return to Ireland for up to ten years.

The operation resulted in the deportation of twenty-four adult males, aged from their mid-twenties to mid-fifties, all of whom have criminal convictions within Ireland and have served custodial sentences. Eighteen of these individuals were removed directly from Irish Prison Service custody while the remaining six were arrested and detained across various locations nationwide prior to removal.

These removals support ongoing Garda efforts through specialised operations such as MOONRIDGE, THOR, TÁIRGE, and TARA, which focus respectively on sex offenders, organised burglary groups, repeat retail crime offenders, and drug supply networks. Additionally, several of the deported offenders held convictions for serious road traffic offences including driving under the influence and dangerous driving. An Garda Síochána continues close collaboration with the Department of Justice and Irish Prison Service to uphold immigration policies and public safety.
