Europe unites to boost Traveller and Roma inclusion
This week, Europe united in a significant gathering aimed at addressing the long-standing challenges that Traveller and Roma communities face in accessing education and employment opportunities. The 19th European Platform for Roma Inclusion, hosted by Ireland in partnership with the European Commission, brought together policymakers, community representatives, and equality experts from across the EU and Accession States.

Under the banner "Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Participation in Education and Employment," the platform spotlighted innovative approaches and shared success stories designed to improve participation rates and outcomes. Despite notable progress, discrimination and social exclusion remain obstacles for many within these communities, making this forum a crucial space for collaborative problem-solving.

Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, emphasised the importance of education and employment as catalysts for equality and inclusion. She highlighted the need for policies shaped by the lived experiences of Traveller and Roma people themselves, reinforcing the commitment to build more inclusive societies where everyone has the chance to thrive. The event featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, all aimed at developing actionable recommendations to enhance equality and participation across Europe.
