An informal meeting of European Union ministers responsible for telecommunications was held in Limerick from Monday, 12th October, to Tuesday, 13th October 2026. This gathering formed part of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, focusing on advancing telecommunications policy and cooperation across member states.
The sessions and associated events were hosted at the University of Limerick, the Strand Hotel, and Adare Manor. Attendees arrived and departed via Shannon, Cork, and Dublin airports, where normal operations were maintained throughout. To ensure security, Gardaí managed rolling road closures and localised traffic restrictions, particularly on key routes such as the N18, M7 motorway, and roads surrounding the University of Limerick.
An Garda Síochána worked closely with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and public transport providers to minimise disruptions. Additionally, temporary flight restrictions were enforced around the event venues, including bans on drone flights within designated UAS Geographical Zones and Temporary Restricted Airspace, monitored by the Irish Aviation Authority. The public were advised to follow Garda instructions and check official sources for real-time updates and any operational changes.
