Following the recommendation of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Helen McEntee TD, the Government has approved a new set of nominations for heads of diplomatic missions, including ambassadors, scheduled for appointment during 2027. These nominations remain subject to the agreement of the receiving States, which is a standard diplomatic protocol.

Minister McEntee expressed confidence in those nominated, stating they will represent Ireland with distinction, advocate for Irish citizens abroad, and promote the nation’s values and interests on the global stage. The Minister extended her best wishes for their success in these important roles.

Notably, the latest nominations reflect progress in gender representation, with women comprising 53% of Ireland’s ambassadorial appointments worldwide. In addition to ambassadors, the Government also acknowledged several appointments to Consul General positions, further strengthening Ireland’s diplomatic network.
