Oireachtas committee to examine proposed dog breeding establishment laws
The Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food will convene at Leinster House to conduct pre-legislative scrutiny regarding the General Scheme of the Dog Breeding Establishments (Amendment) Bill 2026. This parliamentary review aims to examine proposed regulatory updates and gather expert perspectives on animal welfare standards across commercial breeding facilities in the country.

The afternoon proceedings will be divided into two distinct sessions to accommodate submissions from key stakeholders. Session one will feature contributions from representatives of Dogs Trust Ireland and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, focusing on rescue capacities and enforcement challenges.

Following a brief interval, the second session will welcome delegates from Dogs.ie, Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, and the Irish Blue Cross. Committee members will use these discussions to inform subsequent legislative amendments before the bill progresses further through the Houses of the Oireachtas.
