Garda numbers reach record high with 207 new recruits
Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O'Callaghan, recently welcomed 207 new Gardaí attested at the Garda College in Templemore. This group, consisting of 136 men and 71 women, will be assigned to Garda divisions throughout the country by the Garda Commissioner.

The attestation represents a significant milestone in the Government's ongoing commitment to enhancing policing and community safety. With these additions, An Garda Síochána has reached its highest personnel level ever recorded.

Minister O'Callaghan expressed his congratulations to the new Gardaí and highlighted the importance of their roles in increasing Garda visibility and strengthening frontline services. Deployment plans include 84 recruits to the Dublin Metropolitan Region, 76 to the Eastern Region, 27 to the North-Western Region, and 20 to the Southern Region. Recruitment efforts continue robustly, with Garda strength expected to surpass 15,000 members soon, supported by Budget 2027 funding.
