An informal meeting of European Union Education Ministers took place on 15th and 16th October 2026 at Dublin Castle, marking a key event under Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The two-day gathering focused on fostering collaboration and dialogue among member states in the field of education.
The Irish Presidency centred its activities primarily at Dublin Castle, accompanied by a comprehensive policing and security operation to safeguard the event. To facilitate security, several roads including Castle Street, Ship Street Little, and Ship Street Great were closed to both traffic and pedestrians until 31st December 2026, though local access was maintained.
Additional EU Presidency events were held at the Hilton Hotel on Charlemont Place and the Clayton Hotel on Charlemont Mall. Gardaí implemented temporary traffic restrictions and rolling road closures during key arrival and departure times, specifically on Thursday evening and Friday morning, to ensure secure transit between these venues. The public was advised to comply with Garda directions and informed that disruptions were kept to a minimum. Meanwhile, flight restrictions and drone no-fly zones were enforced around event locations, with the Irish Aviation Authority managing these airspace controls to maintain security throughout the Presidency period.
