Dublin hosts Ghana’s Deputy Foreign Minister for talks
Minister of State for International Development and the Diaspora, Neale Richmond TD, today welcomed Deputy Foreign Minister of Ghana James Gyakye Quayson to Dublin for high-level discussions on strengthening bilateral relations.

The visit by the Ghanaian delegation marks a pivotal step towards the establishment of Ghana’s first resident embassy in Ireland, underscoring the growing importance of the relationship between both nations. Ireland and Ghana share deep historical ties, with generations of Irish professionals contributing to healthcare and education in Ghana over the decades.

A Ghanaian community of approximately 5,000 citizens resides in Ireland, and the new embassy will provide essential support and services to this diaspora. The talks between Minister Richmond and Deputy Minister Quayson will also address multilateral priorities, including Ghana’s leadership on reparatory justice, Ireland’s campaign for a seat on the Human Rights Council, and both countries’ shared contributions to international peacekeeping efforts, notably in Lebanon. The meeting precedes Minister Richmond’s upcoming visit to Ghana in October, where he will co-chair a Sahel Special Envoys meeting as part of Ireland’s EU Presidency.
