Minister for Defence Helen McEntee has warmly welcomed a substantial financial allocation of just over €1.6 billion dedicated to the Defence Vote Group. This decisive funding package includes €1.283 billion for Defence Vote 36 and €324 million allocated to the Army Pensions Vote, representing a robust 10.5 percent increase in capital and current expenditure aimed at future-proofing Ireland's security apparatus.
At the heart of this financial boost is a strong commitment to personnel, paving the way for a net increase of 400 Permanent Defence Force roles and up to 100 civil service positions. Additional investments will also target critical accommodation, specialised healthcare needs, and the ongoing rollout of the Reserve Defence Force Regeneration Plan, which encompasses both the expansion of the Naval Service Reserve and the establishment of an Air Corps Reserve.
Capital investment will surge by 13.3 percent to €340 million, driving forward vital technological upgrades such as the Military Radar Programme, replacement helicopters, and advanced maritime security capabilities. These forward-looking measures ensure that Ireland remains well-prepared to tackle modern challenges across land, air, sea, and cyber domains.
