Budget 2027 allocates over one billion to cultural sectors
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, alongside Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy, Charlie McConalogue TD, have unveiled a comprehensive financial package of €1,298,000,000 for the Department in Budget 2027. This significant allocation is designed to sustain vital public services, bolster the arts sector, and finalise critical national infrastructure projects, including the National Broadband Plan, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The funding includes €848 million in current expenditure, supporting the permanent Basic Income for the Arts scheme, record Arts Council investment, and continued support for public service media organisations such as RTÉ and TG4. Furthermore, the Department will introduce the 'IE Alert' Public Warning System to improve emergency communications, while also providing targeted financial support for the growth of hurling and camogie in urban and non-traditional areas through Sport Ireland.

Looking towards major international events, the budget secures the necessary resources for Ireland to host the 2027 Ryder Cup and UEFA EURO 2028. Minister McConalogue confirmed additional support for high-performance athletes preparing for the LA 2028 Olympic Games, alongside ongoing development of the National Sports Campus. Detailed information regarding these departmental programmes and specific sector allocations is available on the official government website.
