Upcoming equine husbandry course opens for November enrolment
A comprehensive short course dedicated to the weaning, husbandry, and early training of horses and ponies is set to commence this November. Designed for producers and owners aged 18 and over, the programme aims to refresh essential skills and provide modern insights into the development of young equines. Participants will benefit from a structured blend of remote learning and hands-on experience.

The course will be delivered across three evening Zoom sessions on 10, 12, and 19 November, running from 7pm to 9.30pm. This theoretical foundation will conclude with a practical workshop at Kildalton Agricultural College in Piltown, County Kilkenny, on 26 November, scheduled between 11am and 3.30pm. Attendees will receive a detailed course manual to support their learning throughout the process.

Expert-led modules will cover critical topics including equine nutrition, behavioural science, healthcare, and parasite prevention. The programme also addresses land management and the practicalities of weaning and castration. With a fee of €200 and limited capacity available, those interested are encouraged to secure their place early via the official Teagasc website.
