Teagasc published its National Farm Survey Farm Enterprise Factsheets, offering a transparent financial and technical assessment of various agricultural sectors in Ireland. Drawing on data from over 800 participating holdings, the published metrics cover milk production, cattle enterprises, mid-season lowland sheep, and cereal farming, providing a granular breakdown of enterprise-level production costs and net margins.
Unlike broader farm income calculations, enterprise margins deliberately exclude most agricultural support payments to deliver an unvarnished view of market-driven profitability. The findings underscore the sustained high cost base that has challenged the domestic agricultural sector since 2022. However, stronger output prices throughout the year helped secure a notable recovery in profit margins for dairy and cattle producers, while cereal margins experienced a modest relative lift compared to the suppressed returns recorded previously. Conversely, sheep enterprise margins saw a slight decline.
Alongside the printed factsheets, the companion online Enterprise Dashboard has been updated to incorporate the latest findings, spanning nearly fifteen years of historical records. This digital tool allows interested parties to examine long-term trends in production costs, output pricing, and technical efficiency across various farming systems. The complete documentation and final survey results are available on the official website.
