The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office have revealed that 26,833 new homes were completed in Ireland between January and September 2026, marking the highest total recorded in that timeframe since data collection began. This represents a 10.6% rise compared to the same period in 2025, when 24,256 homes were finished.
In the third quarter alone, 10,154 dwellings were completed, up 10.4% from 9,197 in Q3 2025. Notably, apartment completions reached 3,464, a 9.8% increase year-on-year, while scheme dwellings, which are houses within multi-unit developments, rose by 13.5% to 5,163. Single dwellings also saw a modest 2.1% growth with 1,527 completed in Q3.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD expressed optimism about the figures, describing them as evidence that government policies are translating into tangible progress. He emphasised the need to maintain momentum, committing to continued efforts to increase housing supply well into 2027 and beyond. Traditionally, housing completions peak in the latter part of the year, so these strong early figures provide a promising outlook for the remainder of 2026.
