Cover crop event to boost soil and farmer health
This Friday, October 30th, Teagasc will hold a practical tillage event at its Oak Park centre in Carlow, emphasising the benefits of cover crops for soil health and farmer wellbeing. Starting at 11am, the event titled 'Rooted in Health – Cover crops, healthy soils and healthier farmers' will highlight how various cover crop species contribute to building more resilient soils.

Attendees will have the chance to view over 20 different types of cover crops and observe demonstrations of different sowing techniques, including drone sowing, broadcasting into standing crops, sowing at harvest, and post-harvest sowing. The programme will also include discussions on the crucial role cover crops play in soil health and practical demonstrations of soil assessment methods.

Complementing the agricultural focus, the Irish Heart Foundation will offer free health checks to farmers present at the event. Those interested in availing of these health assessments are advised to book appointments during their registration. Further details and registration options are available on the official Teagasc website.
