October will see the National Broadband Plan reach significant completion milestones in four counties, as Roscommon, Wexford, Louth and Cavan mark the end of the main network build. The rollout delivers high-speed fibre broadband to more than 70,000 homes, farms and businesses across these regions, backed by over €260 million in Government investment.
These county-level achievements form part of the broader €2.7 billion National Broadband Plan, which remains on track for nationwide completion by the end of 2026. The progress underscores the Government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, ensuring rural communities benefit from reliable connectivity comparable to historic infrastructure projects like rural electrification.
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan TD highlighted the significance of the milestones, stating: “This October, the National Broadband Plan reaches another key turning point, with events in Roscommon, Wexford, Louth and Cavan celebrating the delivery of high-speed, reliable fibre access to thousands of rural households, farms and businesses.”
The investment breakdown for each county includes €76 million in Roscommon for 20,000 premises, €88 million in Wexford for 24,000 premises, €33 million in Louth for 9,000 premises, and €65 million in Cavan for 17,000 premises. Further details are available on the official National Broadband Plan website.
