Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon has confirmed that long-awaited Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) payments will begin processing before the weekend. The minister stated that he has worked intensively to resolve the recent delays and acknowledged the cooperation of farming unions in recognising the critical importance of these funds for the sector.
Heydon emphasised the vital role these payments play in supporting farmers and the broader rural economy across Ireland. He noted that the funds will issue at the higher rate of 75%, consistent with the timing of the Eco-scheme payment released last Friday.
That previous disbursement saw €203m distributed to nearly 107,000 farmers. While further technical details will be provided as they become available, the minister expressed relief that the immediate financial pressure on agricultural households can now be alleviated.
