Extended deadline announced for prestigious farm forestry awards
The deadline for the 2027 RDS Forestry Awards, including the highly regarded RDS/Teagasc Farm Forestry Award, has been officially extended. Prospective applicants now have until Friday 23 October 2026 to submit their entries for consideration, as confirmed by Teagasc Forestry Advisor Noel Kennedy. This programme seeks to honour farmers who display exceptional leadership in integrating forestry into their wider agricultural operations.

Winning this accolade brings significant recognition, with the top prize featuring a €3,000 cash award alongside an RDS Silver Medal. A runner-up will also be honoured with an RDS Certificate of Merit and a €1,200 prize. The award is designed to showcase how forestry serves as a vital pillar of farm sustainability, balancing commercial viability with environmental stewardship and the active promotion of biodiversity across the landscape.

Previous success stories include Kildare organic farmer Stephen Morrison, who was celebrated in 2026 for his impressive integration of 24 hectares of native woodland into his suckler beef enterprise. Those interested in participating can access the application documentation via the official RDS website. For further guidance or specific queries regarding the criteria, farmers are encouraged to reach out to their local Teagasc forestry advisor for expert support.
