Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, recently highlighted a surge in residential construction as he visited two pivotal sites in south Dublin. The projects, located at the former Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum and Emmet Gardens in Clonskeagh, mark a significant step forward in the government's commitment to increasing the national housing stock through state-led initiatives.
The Dundrum site, managed by the Land Development Agency, will eventually host 934 high-quality, energy-efficient homes. This ambitious project is designed to include essential community infrastructure, such as a creche, retail units, and a restaurant, ensuring the area becomes a sustainable neighbourhood. Minister Browne emphasised that utilising state land for such developments is a core component of the current housing strategy.
Meanwhile, the Emmet Gardens development in Clonskeagh has officially commenced, providing 129 apartments consisting of both social and starter purchase homes. Supported by the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Local Authority, the development aims to integrate residents into a well-connected community with proximity to public transport and local amenities. Further information regarding these housing schemes and broader national initiatives is available on the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage official website.
