Contracts signed for Cootehill community hub revamp
Cavan County Council has taken a major step forward by signing contracts with local firm Crosserlough Construction for the redevelopment of St Michael’s Hall in Cootehill. This ambitious initiative will see the conservation and refurbishment of the 120-year-old hall, alongside the demolition of an outdated extension to make way for a contemporary new structure featuring a sports hall, meeting rooms, an auditorium, and a stage.

Funded with €6,248,330 from the Rural Regeneration Development Fund, provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, and matched by Cavan County Council, the project promises to breathe new life into the town centre. Craft Studio Architects are leading the design team, ensuring the historic hall is preserved while seamlessly integrating modern facilities.

Cathaoirleach Cllr Carmel Brady hailed the milestone as a transformative moment for Cootehill, emphasising the hall’s rich heritage and its future role as a vibrant community hub. Chief Executive Eoin Doyle highlighted the economic benefits of awarding the contract to a local company, noting the positive impact on jobs and local growth. Construction is set to begin shortly, with completion anticipated in 2028.
