Cavan County Council has unveiled a Small Business Rates Incentive Scheme for 2026, offering a 5% credit on annual rates liabilities paid in full by 31 October 2026. The credit will be automatically applied to eligible accounts once payments are complete, providing a direct reduction on the following year’s rates.
This initiative targets businesses with an annual commercial rates liability of €10,000 or less, aiming to reduce operational costs and improve cash flow for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the county. To qualify, businesses must have no outstanding local authority charges or arrears and must not be subject to planning enforcement proceedings.
The scheme requires that the ratepayer be either the owner or lessee occupying the premises, conducting a lawful business aligned with granted planning permissions. Payments can be made in full or through monthly standing orders, as long as the total amount is cleared by the deadline. This effort reflects the Council’s commitment to stimulating economic development and regeneration across County Cavan.
