The Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, 21 October at 15:30 in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House to focus on technological innovation within the agricultural sector.

Representatives from companies Nofence and GlastPort Bio will present their insights. Committee Cathaoirleach Aindrias Moynihan highlighted the session's focus on technology that makes farming more appealing to younger generations by improving work-life balance, reducing workload, and increasing operational flexibility.

The committee will explore these technologies from environmental and economic perspectives, assessing their role in sustaining rural communities and supporting sustainable farming. Particular attention will be given to virtual fencing technology, which could address labour shortages, aid pasture management, enhance biodiversity, and help prevent wildfires. Additionally, the meeting will consider how technological progress can assist the agriculture sector in meeting climate commitments while preserving the rural social and economic framework.
