Agri-tech trailblazers begin exciting new entrepreneurial startup journey
A fresh cohort of twelve talented mid-career professionals has officially kicked off the third iteration of the Food and Agriculture Sustainable Technology Innovation Programme. Operating from the state-of-the-art AgTechUCD Innovation Centre at UCD Lyons Farm, this immersive twelve-month initiative is meticulously designed to accelerate the commercialisation pathway for groundbreaking agri-food products and services. Delivered collaboratively by University College Dublin and Teagasc under the auspices of Enterprise Ireland, the programme empowers participants to rigorously validate sustainable concepts that address pressing modern environmental and economic challenges.

This momentum builds on the remarkable success of earlier cohorts, most notably three pioneering teams that recently secured a combined €1.9 million in vital commercialisation funding to scale their enterprises over the next two years. With nearly 300 expressions of interest submitted for the current intake, academic leaders highlighted the surging demand for specialised training that bridges the gap between scientific research and market reality. Fully aligned with national strategies such as Food Vision 2030, the initiative continues to solidify Ireland's reputation as a global leader in climate-smart agriculture and sustainable food systems.

Accredited at Level 9 on the National Qualifications Framework, successful participants will ultimately be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Agrifood Innovation and Entrepreneurship upon completion. Organisers have confirmed that applications for the upcoming fourth cohort will open in early 2027, inviting the next wave of visionaries to shape the future of the sector. Further details regarding the curriculum and upcoming intake windows are available on the official website.
