Christine Mackey appointed as ACRE artist in residence
Kildare County Council’s Arts Service, in collaboration with The ACRE Project, has announced that visual artist Christine Mackey is the successful recipient of the 2026-27 Artist in Residence Award. This initiative provides a dedicated platform for established practitioners to refine their craft while fostering meaningful connections with the local community through public-facing workshops and creative engagement.

Mackey, a research-focused artist with a PhD from the University of Ulster, brings extensive experience in site-specific and socially engaged art to the programme. Her work consistently explores environmental themes through a sophisticated blend of digital and material processes. During her ten-month tenure at the Celbridge facility, she will lead a series of workshops tied to seasonal growing cycles, aiming to establish a permanent and sustainable resource for the local area.

This residency is supported by the Kildare County Council Arts Service and the Arts Council of Ireland. Now in its fifth year, the programme has previously supported artists including Martina McDonald, Krystal Sweedman, Sadhbh O’Sullivan, Sharon Murphy, and Ailish Claffey. Further information regarding the residency and the ongoing work of The ACRE Project is available on the official Kildare County Council website.
