Ireland is preparing for a heartfelt gathering this St Brigid’s Day, inviting all individuals bearing the name Brigid, Bríd, Bridget, Bridey, and their variations to assemble in Kildare. This unique event forms part of the Calling All Brigids campaign, launched within the wider Brigid, Spirit of Kildare Festival 2027, which runs from 28th January to 1st February. The celebration aims to unite Brigids of all generations in the home county of St Brigid for a day of reflection and community.
The highlight of the day will be the Pause for Peace at 12 noon, a moment designed to inspire collective calm and send a message of harmony from Kildare, the saint’s native land. Attendees will also honour the Brigids who have shaped their lives, including friends, family, and ancestors. Following this poignant pause, guests can look forward to a special musical performance, refreshments, and a commemorative keepsake. Those present will also enjoy complimentary access to the Japanese Gardens at the Irish National Stud.
Broadcaster Jennifer Zamparelli leads the call for participation, encouraging Brigids nationwide to register for this memorable occasion. Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, emphasises the deep cultural and historical significance of the name Brigid, inviting all variations to join in celebrating this shared heritage. Registration is free and available through the official Spirit of Brigid website, which also provides further details on the festival’s rich programme of arts, music, and cultural events celebrating St Brigid’s enduring impact.
