Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, in collaboration with the Embassy of Greece in Ireland, has unveiled "10,000 Years of Greek and Irish Maritime Tradition," an inspiring exhibition highlighting the deep-rooted maritime heritage connecting the two nations. The showcase opened at dlr LexIcon in Dún Laoghaire, offering visitors a unique journey through millennia of seafaring history.

Drawing on collections from prestigious maritime museums such as the Hellenic Maritime Museum, the Maritime Museum of Crete, and the National Maritime Museum of Ireland, the exhibition traces voyages from prehistoric times to contemporary shipping and coastal life. It tells stories of trade, boatbuilding craftsmanship, epic explorations, wartime experiences, and ongoing cultural exchanges that have shaped both Irish and Greek coastal communities.

An Cathaoirleach Cllr Barry Saul expressed pride in celebrating the shared maritime legacy, emphasising Dún Laoghaire’s identity as a sea town. Frank Curran, Chief Executive of the Council, highlighted the event’s role in fostering international cooperation and lifelong learning. Complementing the exhibition, dlr Libraries will host talks, family activities, and educational programmes inspired by the themes of maritime heritage and European connections. The exhibition runs until 29 November 2026 with free admission at dlr LexIcon, Moran Park, Dún Laoghaire.
