Kildare County Council’s Art Service has proudly appointed Martina McDonald to lead the Newbridge Town Centre Mural project this autumn. Martina will collaborate closely with the local women’s collective, The Sisterhood, and residents of Eyre Street to co-design a striking mural that honours the rich cultural fabric of Newbridge.
Through a series of creative workshops, participants will explore ideas and themes that reflect the town’s diversity, history, and contemporary life. The mural, to be hand-painted by Martina, will adorn the gable-end of Coopers Furniture Store, a well-established family business on Eyre Street, becoming a vibrant landmark in the heart of the community.
This initiative is part of the Newbridge Public Art Award, supported by a €6,500 fund from Local Property Tax (LPT) allocated within the Kildare/Newbridge Municipal District. Martina McDonald, a seasoned visual artist and muralist from Clane, brings over 16 years of experience in printmaking, painting, and community art projects. As Curator for Visual Arts at Riverbank Arts Centre, she is deeply engaged in fostering local artistic talent. Further details about this and other public art commissions can be found on Kildare County Council Arts Service’s online platform.
