Public consultation launched for new Kildare bus networks
The National Transport Authority has officially opened a public consultation regarding ambitious proposals to introduce dedicated town bus networks across Naas and Newbridge. Operating for up to eighteen hours daily throughout the week, the proposed services would feature two dedicated routes in each town running every thirty minutes. John Nott, head of public transport services planning at the authority, emphasised that the initiative would significantly improve local connectivity, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and support sustainable community growth.

The proposed infrastructure would ensure that more than eighty-five percent of residents in both areas live within fourhundred metres of a designated bus stop. In Naas, the planned network comprises routes connecting Piper's Hill, the general hospital, town centre, and Sallins train station, alongside a secondary route serving Millennium Park. Meanwhile, the Newbridge network features routes linking Athgarvan, Moorefield, the town centre, and local rail links. Detailed maps and route alignments are currently available for review through the official National Transport Authority consultation portal.

Local stakeholders can engage directly with planning officials during upcoming public information events, which will take place at Newbridge Town Hall on Monday, 2 November 2026, and Naas Library on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, running from 1.30pm to 5.00pm on both dates. Submissions on the proposed routes, stop locations, and operating hours must be submitted before the closing date on Thursday, 12 November 2026 at 5.00pm. Subject to funding approval and infrastructure delivery, the new networks are targeted to commence operations from 2028 and 2029 onwards.
