New safety cameras to monitor Farranfore railway crossing
A second red-light safety camera is set to take effect at Farranfore Level Crossing in Farranfore, County Kerry, from 12pm today. The initiative follows close collaboration between An Garda Síochána, Iarnród Éireann, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and Kerry County Council to bolster safety at railway crossings nationwide.

The camera will monitor motorists and automatically record any violations, including proceeding past a stop line when red lights are flashing or exceeding speed limits. Offenders will face a Fixed Charge Notice of €80 and two penalty points for red-light breaches, or €160 and three penalty points for speeding.

This marks the second deployment of up to six such cameras across various level crossings in the coming months. Assistant Commissioner Ferry of the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau highlighted the importance of the technology in enhancing safety for both rail and road users.
