New Ennis town bus network launches this October
A transformative era for public transport in County Clare begins on 18 October 2026, as the National Transport Authority and Clare County Council launch a dedicated town bus service for Ennis. This new network, integrated into the Transport for Ireland system, aims to provide a reliable, sustainable alternative to private car travel, connecting communities directly with the town centre, Ennis Hospital, and the local rail station.

Two primary routes will serve the area: the NS1, which links Ballymaley and Clarecastle, and the NS2, connecting Shanaway Road and Tulla Road. Both services will run every 30 minutes, with a shared central spine creating a high-frequency 15-minute interval during peak times. Passengers can enjoy seamless travel with the TFI Leap card, which allows for free interchange between routes within 90 minutes, alongside the acceptance of Free Travel Passes.

The fleet will consist of fully accessible, low-floor single-deck buses, ensuring inclusivity for all commuters, students, and visitors. By strengthening access to healthcare, employment, and leisure hubs, this investment marks a significant milestone in the town's development. Detailed timetables, fare structures, and route maps are available on the official Transport for Ireland website.
