New Ennis town bus network launches this October
The National Transport Authority, in collaboration with Clare County Council, is set to transform local travel with the introduction of the Ennis Town Bus Service. Commencing on 18 October 2026, this new addition to the Transport for Ireland network will feature two primary routes, NS1 and NS2, designed to bridge the gap between residential neighbourhoods, the town centre, and essential facilities like Ennis Hospital and the regional rail station.

Commuters will benefit from a highly efficient schedule, with buses running every 30 minutes in each direction. A shared corridor will effectively provide a 15-minute frequency, ensuring reliable access from early morning until late evening. The fleet will consist of modern, low-floor, accessible single-deck vehicles. Passengers can utilise the TFI Leap card for cost-effective travel, with free interchanging between routes permitted within a 90-minute window. Standard fares are set at €1.50 for Leap card users, while Free Travel Pass holders and children under nine may travel at no cost.

Local officials have lauded the project as a vital milestone for the town’s infrastructure and economic growth. By providing a sustainable alternative to private car usage, the service aims to bolster the evening economy and simplify journeys to education and healthcare providers. Detailed route maps, full timetables, and further fare information are available on the official Transport for Ireland website.
