Public transport users in County Wexford can now benefit from simplified boarding as TFI Local Link introduces contactless payment options across its regular route services. Passengers are now able to pay for single-journey fares using debit or credit cards, alongside popular digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, marking a significant step forward for regional connectivity.
This regional rollout builds upon a successful pilot scheme in Cavan and Monaghan, followed by subsequent expansions into numerous counties nationwide. While contactless technology is now available for individual trips, traditional cash transactions, Free Travel Cards, and TFI Leap cards continue to be fully accepted, while multi-trip fare products remain accessible via the official website and mobile application.
Edmund Betagh, TFI Local Link Programme Manager at the National Transport Authority, noted that the strong uptake in other regions highlights a clear preference for fast and secure payment methods. Mark Kinsella, General Manager at TFI Local Link Wexford, added that the initiative offers greater flexibility and supports ongoing efforts to enhance local transport services.
