Clonduff triumph ends 26-year Down SFC wait
Clonduff secured a remarkable victory in the Morgan Fuels Down Senior Football Championship final, overcoming Burren with a final score of 1-14 to 1-10 at Páirc Esler in Newry. This win ended a 26-year wait for the Yellas, who controlled much of the game and kept their opponents at bay throughout the contest.

The match began with a spectacular goal from Charlie Carr after just seven minutes, setting the tone for Clonduff's dominance. Despite a close first half, the teams were separated by just a few points at the break, with Clonduff leading 1-6 to 0-4. Both sides had entered the final on the back of impressive semi-final victories, but nerves were evident as neither team wanted to cede an early advantage.

The second half saw Clonduff pull away, with key scores from Senan Carr, Stephen McConville, and Eamon Brown helping to extend the lead. Burren fought back with a goal from Niall Toner, sparking renewed hope, but Clonduff’s composure and precision ultimately prevailed. Substitute Ben McConville’s important work late in the game led to a crucial free, converted by Stephen McConville, sealing a four-point triumph. Captains Charlie Carr and Stephen McConville lifted the Frank O’Hare Cup, paying tribute to their manager Gearoid Adams and remembering their late teammate Lorcan Branagan, who passed away in Australia in March 2024.
