Teagasc recently launched its second Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) strategy, titled ‘Advancing Diversity Equity and Inclusion: Building an Inclusive and Accessible Organisation.’ The strategy was unveiled by Chairperson Liam Herlihy during the Growing Voices, Women in Farming event, marking a significant step forward in the organisation’s commitment to fostering equality.
Valerie Farrell, Teagasc’s Chief Operations Officer Designate, spoke at the launch about the organisation’s progress over the past eight years in areas such as gender equality, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and support for its diverse international workforce. She outlined the strategy’s four pillars, emphasising actionable commitments aimed at embedding DE&I principles deeply into Teagasc’s culture and operations, ensuring the organisation remains an employer and service provider of choice that values diversity and nurtures an environment where all employees can thrive.
Additionally, Teagasc has joined the Widening Inclusion of Disability in Employment (WIDE) Leaders Programme, a collaboration with AHEAD and Employers for Change, supported by the Department of Social Protection. This initiative involves assessing and enhancing organisational culture and practices to better include disabled talent. Áine Coady, Teagasc’s DE&I Specialist and WIDE representative, highlighted the importance of this programme in developing a more inclusive workplace, benefiting not only marginalised individuals but the organisation as a whole. The programme brings together eight employers across Ireland, working collectively towards advancing disability inclusion in employment.
