The Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, has officially launched the 2027 Community Monuments Fund. This initiative is designed to assist owners and custodians in the conservation, maintenance, and promotion of local archaeological monuments, ranging from ancient forts and castles to historic graveyards and abbeys.
Since its inception in 2021, the programme has successfully directed over €40 million into more than 840 projects nationwide. Minister O’Sullivan emphasised that the fund not only restores vital structures but also fosters community cohesion and supports the preservation of traditional craftsmanship within the heritage sector. The scheme is administered by the National Monuments Service in close collaboration with local authority heritage teams.
For the 2027 cycle, the fund will feature four distinct streams, including a new pilot programme introduced this year. Those interested in applying for grant support are encouraged to contact their local authority heritage officer for guidance on the application process. The closing date for all submissions will be 5 February 2027, and further information is available on the official government website.
