The Education Futures Challenge programme will foster collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and educators, focusing on practical, evidence-driven solutions to enhance the education system amid rapid societal changes. Both organisations will contribute €1.2 million over three years, with the first call for applications scheduled for December 2026.

The announcement coincided with the Education Research Summit 2026 at Croke Park Conference Centre, which gathered over 200 experts to promote research-informed education policies. Minister Naughton highlighted the summit's recognition as an Associated Event of Ireland’s EU Presidency, emphasising the theme "Ní neart go cur le chéile" and the importance of partnership. Professor Peter Moss of University College London delivered the keynote address, underscoring the event's role in shaping Ireland’s educational future.
