Kildare County Council has officially appointed Donnelly Civil Engineering to undertake the first phase of construction for Cherry Avenue Park in Kildare Town, signalling a significant development in local community amenities.
Situated on Dublin Road, the 17-acre site was previously part of the National Stud before the M7 motorway was built. Early works will focus on shaping the terrain to accommodate various park features, upgrading the current entrance for pedestrians and cyclists, and constructing a new car park. Additionally, pathways, seating, and landscaping will be introduced across the park.
The initial masterplan was created by M-CO, with detailed designs for this phase prepared by Murray & Associates Landscape Architects, who will also supervise the construction alongside Kildare County Council. The design team includes Donnachadh O’Brien & Associates as civil and structural engineers and Levins Associates as quantity surveyors. Completion of this phase is targeted for 2028. Councillor Tim Durkan highlighted the park's importance for community recreation, while Chief Executive Sonya Kavanagh emphasised its role in supporting biodiversity and climate action. Rory Donnelly, project director, expressed enthusiasm for delivering a quality public space for the town.
