Kildare council faces strike disruption on 14 October
The Fórsa and SIPTU trade unions have announced a full-day strike scheduled for Wednesday, 14 October 2026, impacting all 31 local authorities across Ireland as part of a national public sector dispute. This action will directly affect Kildare County Council's operations, leading to significant service interruptions.

In response, Kildare County Council has activated its Business Continuity Plan to ensure critical services remain functional and disruption is minimised. On the day of the strike, all council buildings will be closed to the public. While MERITS will continue to serve business tenants, it will not be accessible to the general public. Some services may operate with reduced capacity, and delays or changes to usual procedures are to be expected.

Fire services will not be impacted by the strike. However, the Housing Department will be closed for homelessness presentations on 14 October, though the Homeless Freephone service will remain available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1800 804 307. Members of the public are advised to utilise online and email services where possible and to consult the council's website and official social media platforms for the latest updates before visiting any council facilities. Kildare County Council expresses regret for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public's patience and understanding during this period.
