South Dublin County Council has officially called for expressions of interest regarding the proposed usage of two prominent ground floor units within its recent Airton Road development in Tallaght. Situated at the busy junction of Greenhills Road and Airton Road, Unit 1 in Block C spans approximately 183 square metres, while Unit 2 in Block D measures around 173 square metres. Both properties will be handed over in a shell and core finish, meaning all interior fit-out expenses and associated development costs will fall entirely upon the successful applicants. Local authorities have emphasised that these spaces are specifically designated for community, recreational, sporting, or other locally beneficial initiatives that will enhance streetscape activity and footfall.
Applicants wishing to secure the lease must satisfy several rigorous criteria, including demonstrating prior operational experience, presenting a robust financial plan complete with proposed rental contributions, and outlining clear community gains. Retail ventures are strictly excluded from consideration under this scheme. Successful operators will also shoulder responsibility for utility charges, service fees, local rates, statutory tax obligations, and any planning requirements for signage. Furthermore, any resulting lease agreements will be subject to Section 183 of the Local Government Act 2001, requiring entities to hold formal legal status such as a limited company or a company limited by guarantee.
Interested parties may request a site visit before finalising their submissions. Comprehensive proposals must be sent to the Economic Development department at South Dublin County Council before 4pm on 23rd October 2026. Submissions can be emailed directly or sent by post to the Senior Executive Officer at County Hall in Tallaght, ensuring full compliance with local management and public liability insurance stipulations.
