A packed consultation event took place at the MDA Buildings in Mountmellick on Monday, 5 October 2026, as Laois County Council invited the public to contribute to the regeneration of Smiths Field. The gathering, organised with the Mountmellick Town Team and led by the Daniel Woodroffe Group Ltd (DWG), allowed residents, businesses and community groups to view emerging proposals and share their ideas for the site’s future.
The consultation is part of the Mountmellick Town Centre First Plan, designed to revitalise the area and align with local aspirations. All feedback will be carefully reviewed to refine the proposals before finalisation, ensuring the community’s voice shapes the project’s direction.
Those who missed the event can still have their say until Friday, 23 October 2026. The online survey is available on the Laois County Council consultation portal, where detailed drawings of the project area can be examined. Hard copies are also accessible at the MDA Buildings in Irishtown or by contacting Haley Grant on 057 8664215. Completed surveys may be returned in person, posted to the Town Regeneration Section in Portlaoise, or submitted digitally via the portal.
