Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Jim O’Callaghan officially opened the Digitalisation of Justice Conference earlier today at Dublin Castle. This event formed part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union and was co-organised with the European Commission.
The conference focused on advancing practical cooperation and innovation in justice systems throughout the EU. It highlighted concrete digital solutions, including AI tools, developed under the Digital Justice@2030 Strategy adopted by the European Commission last year. Attendees included European Commissioner Michael McGrath, policymakers, legal professionals, and representatives from Member States, who exchanged best practices and addressed challenges in the sector.
In his opening address, Minister O’Callaghan emphasised the clear benefits of modern technology in justice systems, such as reducing administrative burdens, speeding up case processing, and improving citizen access to justice. He called for a coordinated approach across the EU to fully harness the expanding range of digital tools available to enhance interoperability, efficiency, and the overall resilience of European justice.
