Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee TD, welcomed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Maxime Prévot, to Dublin on 3 September. The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between Ireland and Belgium, grounded in significant economic connections and vibrant cultural exchanges, notably during Ireland’s EU Presidency.

The discussions encompassed several pressing European policy issues, including enhancing competitiveness, advancing EU enlargement, and upholding the rule of law. Minister McEntee emphasised the importance of creating a more favourable business environment as a priority under Ireland’s EU Presidency, focusing on simplifying regulations to support SMEs and stimulate innovation across Europe. Belgium remains Ireland’s fourth largest goods export partner, with bilateral ties continuing to grow.

Following an informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers hosted by Minister McEntee the previous day, the two ministers also deliberated on international concerns such as the Middle East situation, ongoing support for Ukraine, and global diplomatic relations. These exchanges reaffirm the commitment of both nations to collaborate on key foreign and security policy challenges.
