SuperValu recalls smoked salmon over listeria fears
SuperValu has announced a recall of its Smoked Salmon products in 40g and 150g packs, specifically those bearing a use-by date of 17 October 2026, due to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes. Notices informing customers of the recall have been placed prominently at points of sale to ensure public awareness.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause mild flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea in healthy individuals. However, it poses a much greater risk to vulnerable populations including pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms may take from three days up to seventy days to appear after exposure, complicating early detection.

Retailers are urged to immediately remove the affected products from shelves and display clear recall information to customers. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume the implicated smoked salmon packs with the specified use-by date. Further details and updates are available through official Food Safety Authority of Ireland channels.
