An Garda Síochána executed a comprehensive policing operation across all six divisions of the Dublin Metropolitan Region on 21 October 2026. This initiative, named Operation Meacán, focused on curbing the illegal use of Personal Powered Transporters (PPTs), including e-scooters, e-bikes, scramblers, and Surron-type bikes, as well as associated criminal behaviour.
The operation deployed uniformed and plainclothes Gardaí alongside specialised units such as the Drugs Units, Garda Air Support, Dog and Drone Units, Community Policing, and the Dublin Crime Response Team. Their combined efforts led to 80 property searches under warrant and the seizure of 122 PPTs alongside four stolen motorcycles.
Further results included confiscation of over €95,000 worth of suspected illicit drugs—cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and cannabis—plus five cannabis plants valued at €2,250 and €16,885 in cash. Thirteen individuals were arrested linked to separate offences, and numerous summonses and Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued. Assistant Commissioner Roberts emphasised the dual aim of targeting dangerous PPT use and disrupting serious crimes involving these vehicles. The operation remains ongoing.
