Listeria recall hits popular smoked seafood products
Several smoked seafood products from Supervalu and Inspired By Centra, including smoked salmon, mackerel, and prawn cocktail, have been recalled following the detection of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This serious safety alert was issued on 20 October 2026 by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, prompting immediate removal of affected batches from shelves.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause mild flu-like and gastrointestinal symptoms in healthy individuals but poses significant health risks to pregnant women, infants, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. The incubation period ranges from 3 to 70 days, meaning symptoms may appear weeks after consumption.

Retailers are instructed to pull the implicated products and display recall notices prominently, while wholesalers and distributors must notify their customers and ensure all recalled items are removed. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume any products from the affected batches to avoid potential health complications. Further information is available from the FSAI's official channels.
