Listeria prompts recall of smoked salmon products
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has announced a recall of certain batches of Centra Inspired By and SuperValu smoked salmon products after detecting the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Notices alerting customers to the recall are being displayed at all points of sale to ensure public awareness.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause mild flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms in healthy individuals, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. However, it poses a significant threat to pregnant women, infants, older adults, and those with compromised immune systems, potentially leading to severe complications. The incubation period for symptoms ranges from three to seventy days, with an average of three weeks.

Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected batches immediately and display recall notices prominently. Wholesalers and distributors must contact their customers to facilitate the recall and ensure that retailers are informed. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume the specified batches of smoked salmon to avoid any risk of infection.
